Fighting Meningitis: A Tribute to Bhavini's Memory

Since Christmas of 2007, my husband and I have been on a dedicated mission to raise awareness about meningitis in honour of our beloved daughter, Bhavini, who tragically lost her life to this devastating illness. 🌟 Our journey has been driven by the cherished memory of our daughter and the hope that, had we known more about the symptoms and recognised the warning signs on that fateful night, we might have been able to save her life. 💔

Our mission is closely tied to Meningitis Now, a national charity based in the United Kingdom. This organization was born out of the merger of two prominent charities, The Meningitis Trust and Meningitis UK, in 2013. Meningitis Now is passionately dedicated to creating a future where no one in the UK succumbs to meningitis, and everyone affected receives the support they require. 🧡

Our journey began in 2008, to celebrate what would have been her 21st birthday, we held our very first Charity Ball at the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Hall in Oldham. 💃🕺 This marked a significant moment in our mission to keep Bhavini's memory alive and to raise funds and awareness to combat meningitis. 🙏 Our remarkable achievement was duly recognised by the Meningitis Trust, and we were honoured with a special invitation to an event later that year. This event was graced by the presence of Her Royal Highness, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, who serves as the patron of the charity. 👑

Fast forward to the present day, and we find ourselves on the cusp of an extraordinary milestone – the 35th anniversary of Bhavini's untimely passing. Over the years, with the support of our community, local businesses, friends, and family, we have achieved remarkable success in our fundraising efforts. The funds we've raised exceeded even our wildest expectations and continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. 🙏

One of our proudest accomplishments during this journey has been our contribution to funding research that led to the development of a widely used vaccine for babies aged 3 months and older. This breakthrough has been a game-changer in the fight against meningitis. We personally experienced the significance of this achievement when our granddaughter received the vaccine at 3 months, almost 30 years after we began our fundraising efforts. It was an incredibly emotional moment, filled with satisfaction and pride,

knowing that our work, alongside the efforts of countless others in similar positions, had played a crucial role in making this vaccine a reality for families like ours. 🌟

As we approach the 35th anniversary of Bhavini's passing, we invite you to join us for a momentous event at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, where we will be returning to bring our fundraising campaign to a close. 🎉 This year, we aim to make an even bigger impact and raise further awareness about meningitis. We have come a long way, and together, we can continue to make a lasting difference.

Join us in making a lasting impact and helping raise awareness about meningitis. Together, we can make a difference. ❤️🤝
